Gustavo, the Shy Ghost by Flavia Z. Drago

Gustavo is the sweetest little ghost with a heart of pure gold. He loves doing paranormal things like floating through walls and glowing in the dark. But most of all, Gustavo loves to play his violin.

Gustavo desperately wants to be friends with the other monsters, but they can’t see him and he is anxious and scared about how to approach them! This rings especially true for Alma, the prettiest monster in town who Gustavo is secretly in love with.

So, the brave little ghost who just wants to belong to something hatches a plan, he will invite every monster to listen to him play the violin on the Day of the Dead! Gustavo writes a letter to all the other monsters inviting them, but is still very nervous and afraid of performing in front of the others. What if they don’t come? What if they don’t like his music?

The night of the violin concert arrives, but no one is there! So, all alone, Gustavo does what he loves most, he plays. The music cheers him up as it echoes through the surroundings, and slowly Gustavo begins to glow! Then, all of a sudden, the other monsters are there! They got lost on their way to get him flowers, and found him after listening to his beautiful music, which they love.

Gustavo’s life changes from this moment on, and he turns out to be the best friend that all the monsters never knew they were missing.

Uplifting and empowering, Gustavo the Shy Ghost will give you goosebumps in the best way. Endearing and educational, a must-read (and seasonally appropriate)!
