Steve Martin wanted to publish a collection of cartoons, the only obstacle was that he can’t draw to save his life (stick figures are the extent of his skillset). So, he reached out to cartoonist/illustrator Harry Bliss and floated the idea of a collaboration. Needless to say, Bliss agreed.
Their process worked like this: Steve would send Harry some ideas via text, and then Harry would draw a corresponding cartoon, asking Martin for clarification from time to time. The result is brilliant. Reminiscent of Gary Larson’s ‘Far Side’ cartoons, A Wealth of Pigeons is snarky, dry and so sly it will have you laughing until your stomach hurts.
We could all use a little more levity this holiday season, so pick up a copy of A Wealth of Pigeons today (It’s the perfect gift for all the dads out there). Enjoy, and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
