Words Bridging Worlds: Community Workshop on Translating Poetry
Arthur Sze’s poet laureate project seeks to widen and deepen the appreciation of poetry through the lens of translating poetry and reading poetry in translation. He seeks to engage people in the community who are interested in translating poetry and who may not have tried this before.

About the Event
Apply to join the workshop. Limited to 15 participants - deadline to apply is December 20th
Arthur Sze will introduce two short poems in Chinese, discuss them, and provide participants with a crib, where the sounds as well as words in English are presented under each Chinese character. Participants will be invited to choose one of the two poems to translate into English.
Participants can also bring a poem they would like to translate, and they can do so after the discussion about translating poetry. There will be a discussion of the translated poems toward the end of this session.
Participants do not need to know a second language. If English is their primary or sole language, participants can work with one of the two poems from Chinese that will be offered. Participants can also choose to bring a poem from another language to work on during this session.
