Thomas Dodge (b. 1957) is a Santa Fe, NM-based photographer and writer who focuses on photographing the forms and colors of the Southwest landscape, and the people and traditions of the region. During a 50-year photojournalism career, much of his previous work focused on agricultural, conservation and environmental issues nationally
and internationally.
After receiving his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri School of Journalism (1979), Thomas started his career working in newspapers. Later he became an editor at Farm Journal Publications in Philadelphia, PA, and then as an editor for Caterpillar, Inc., and various corporate clients.
Fine art photography has always been central to Thomas’s work. Past portfolios have included such photography projects as the fall of the Iron Curtain in Germany in 1989, the opening up of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s, reportage on life in Haiti, as well as the wildlife of the Galapagos Islands.
Thomas has been honored with a McKnight Foundation Photography Fellowship; Photographer of the Year and Master Photographer awards from the American Agricultural Editors’ Association. Early in his career, Thomas was named one of 100 top new photographers in America by the Maine Photographic Workshops. Today, Thomas continues to expand his body of photographic essays and has recently published his memoir/photographic retrospective, SOJOURN: A Life in
Photography. (Sojourn Groveland Press), also available at Collected Works.
