Journey Santa Fe Presents: Douglas Meiklejohn, founder NM Environmental Law Center

Sunday, September 17, 2017 - 11:00am

DOUGLAS MEIKLEJOHN, founder and Executive Director of the non-profit, public-interest New Mexico Environmental Law Center, will speak about several critical water decisions now under consideration in New Mexico presenting crucial tipping points that could threaten our water future. Meiklejohn will show how decisions we make about water today will affect New Mexicans tomorrow. These include the highly-contested Augustin Plains Ranch water grab (the Law Center represents nearly a hundred local residents in the case) and the Santolina mega-development planned for Albuquerque’s west side. He will discuss what happens when water, money and politics collide – and what we can do to ensure that our state’s scarce water remains in the public trust for generations to come. Mr. Meiklejohn has been working for environmental justice and protection throughout New Mexico for three decades.  He has represented communities in their efforts to prevent or remediate environmental contamination both on a statewide level and in specific local cases. Free and open to the public
