The New District Attorney Marco Serna Recaps his First Year As Santa Fe DA: Addressing Addiction Problem Focusing On Treatment rather than incarceration & more.
Marco P. Serna is a native Northern New Mexican who has devoted his career to public service. He began his prosecutorial career with the 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Valencia County where he quickly established himself as a leader in the office. Marco was given the responsibility of supervising the Domestic Violence and Violent Crimes Unit in both the Valencia and Sandoval County offices. His successes in this role were recognized by the New Mexico State Bar which awarded him Prosecutor of the Year in 2013. Soon after, Marco accepted a position with the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office where he was a fierce advocate in the Medicaid Fraud and Elder Abuse Division.
Marco successfully ran for District Attorney in the First Judicial District with the promise to address the addiction problem in his district by focusing on treatment rather than incarceration. Marco was sworn into office in January of 2017.
