Oliphant Cartoon Exhibit

Collected Works Bookstore is honored to present an exhibition of current political cartoon drawings by Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist and political commentator Patrick Oliphant. Recent hot topics to inspire Oliphant's brush and pen include Judge Sonia Sotomayor's nomination to the Supreme Court, the Bernie Madoff scandal, former Vice President Dick Cheney, and the changes in the newspaper business. A master of what he calls "confrontational art," Oliphant spares neither liberal nor conservative, sinner nor saint.

Called "the most influential cartoonist now working" by The New York Times, Oliphant occupies a unique position among today's editorial cartoonists. As the most widely syndicated political cartoonist in the world, he is one of the profession's sharpest, most daring practitioner, producing work that is as visually stunning as it is metaphorically powerful.

His cartoons have been distributed by the Universal Press Syndicate since 1980, and they are currently published in hundreds of newspapers and magazines worldwide. Specially commissioned Oliphant works appear regularly in publications such as The New Yorker magazine, The New York Times and The Washington Post.

In addition to winning a Pulitzer, and innumerable other prestigious awards, Oliphant is also an accomplished artist in a variety of media, including sculpture, etching, lithography and monotype. His artwork has achieved wide acclaim through many publications and museum exhibitions nationwide, such as the Smithsonian Institution's National Portrait Gallery, the Library of Congress and the Museum of New Mexico.

The Oliphant exhibition at Collected Works will be ongoing, with work rotating on an "as available" basis.
