SUMMARY:Muse Times Two Poetry Series \:\: Ed Skoog (\\"Mister Skylight\\") & Jon Wilkins (\\"Transistor Rodeo\\")
DESCRIPTION:<p class=\\"space\\">
 The phrase “Mister Skylight” is an emergency signal to<br />
 alert a ship’s crew\,  but not its passengers\, of an emergency. This<br />
 debut collection is alert to disasters and to the hope of rescue —from<br />
 the flooding of New Orleans to the wildfires of California to the<br />
 more private emergencies of domestic life. Interior dramas of the self<br />
 are played out in a clash of poetic traditions\, exuberant imagery\, and<br />
 wild  metaphor.

 Ed Skoog\, who<br />
 worked for years in the basement of a museum in New Orleans\, developed<br />
 personal connections to objects and paintings. “Working on an exhibition<br />
 about the building trades was important to this book\,” he writes.<br />
 “Spending weeks listening to the oral histories of plasterers\,<br />
 steeplejacks\, and carpenters connected me to my own family’s stories.”<br />
 Marked by uncommonly intense and considered use of language\, Skoog<br />
 demonstrates a rich attention to form and allusive narrative as he<br />
 attends to the details of contemporary politics\, culture\, place\, and<br />
 relationships.

 “Ed Skoog's poetry<br />
 is so ambitious it takes my breath away. In it\, he creates dense<br />
 narratives\, sees patterns\, sees  dissimilitudes\, knows how to fishtail<br />
 with images and turn with ease\, knows how to braid pop culture into<br />
 small personal melancholies and into large generosities.” <em>The Stranger</em>

 <em>&quot\;First off you need to know how much fun Jon Wilkins's </em>Transistor Rodeo<em><br />
 is\: a whole lot\, a thousand afternoons of brainy\, brawling\, fragrant\, dazzling microscopic daisies. Very few books deliver as much electricity per line\, per poem\, as this one does\, and fewer still can sustain that charge until\, crackling\, imagination flashes and gives way to beauty. Whether prayer or sonnet\, parable\, love song\, or theorem\, or frequently<br />
 more than one of these\, a Wilkins poem ambles and darts\, hesitates\, notices its surroundings\, changes direction\, exults\, and delivers us into an entirely new place. Are we changed by reading this? I think we are. Wilkins is an alchemist. Wilkins should be your alchemist.&quot\;</em><br />

SUMMARY:BOOKS AT THE MARKET -- Deborah Madison \\"Seasonal Fruit Desserts\\"
DESCRIPTION:<p>
 At the Santa Fe Farmers Market!
 </p>
 <p>
 All the things that go into making good savory dishes –the hand\, the heart and the five senses – go into making desserts. <strong><em>Seasonal Desserts from Orchard\, Farm and Market</em></strong> captures fruit as a means to pleasure and knowledge. Madison has used<br />
 the subject of (mostly) fruit desserts to guide readers to the names of stellar varieties\, their characteristics\, where and when they might be found\, and the history of some of our unique American fruits. This gorgeous book also looks at tree crops\, from Medjool dates to shagbark hickory nuts\, and America's new farmstead cheeses for the last course of the meal. <strong><em>Seasonal Desserts from Orchard\, Farm and Market</em></strong><br />
 challenges our ideas about what's in season by looking at where foods are grown and what their true seasonalilty looks like. Green rhubarb with blackberries? Of course!
 </p>
 <p>
 Because good fruit speaks so well for itself\, these desserts don't depend on terribly exacting conditions and manual dexterity for success. These are recipes for cooks rather than pastry chefs\, meaning they are easily made.

SUMMARY:Catherine Wanek - The Hybrid House\: Designing with Sun\, Wind\, Water\, and Earth
DESCRIPTION:<p>
 <em><strong>The Hybrid House</strong></em> highlights real people who have used a combination of design strategies to reduce their energy use - sometimes by as much as 90 percent! Author and photographer Catherine Wanek showcases sustainable new and renovated houses that incorporate natural building materials like straw bales\, adobe and real wood\, with renewable energy systems\, that will minimize a modern home's carbon footprint\, while ensuring a healthy environment for residents. See inspiring contemporary examples from the United States\, Canada and Europe.
 </p>
 <p>
 Here are real examples from around the globe showing how homeowners are creating dream houses that satisfy their low-carbon lifestyles. From solar homes in California to an ecovillage in New York\, from a wind-powered ranch in Kansas to a home built from jumbo straw bales in the Swiss Alps\, people are doing their part to build a healthful home and planet.
 </p>
 <p>
 In the industrialized world\, half of the energy consumed is used to construct and power buildings. Burning fossil fuels for heating and generating electricity pumps pollution into the air\, which contributes to global warming. By using energy more efficiently\, we can begin to reverse this trend and lower energy bills at the same time.
 </p>
 <p>
 Like a hybrid car\, a hybrid house employs a combination of strategies to save energy and reduce carbon emissions. Designed to utilize the free energy of sunlight\, the passing breeze\, and the rain falling on the roof\, the hybrid household also incorporates non-toxic building materials that can be produced sustainably\, as well as using cutting-edge technologies. Thanks to modern-day pioneers leading the way\, here is living proof of beautiful twenty-first century homes that are good for both people and the planet.
 </p>
 <p>
 Catherine Wanek is the author and photographer of <em>The New Strawbale Home</em> and co-editor/author of <em>The Art of Natural Building</em>. Also a filmmaker\, she produced <em>The Straw Bale Solution</em>\, <em>Urban Permaculture</em>\, and the <em>Building with Straw</em> video series. For five years\, Catherine published and edited <em>The Last Straw</em>\, the International Journal of Straw Bale and Natural Building. She has contributed articles and images to <em>Su Casa</em> magazine\, <em>Communities</em>\, <em>Permaculture Activist</em>\, <em>Mother Earth News</em>\, and the <em>New York Times</em>. Catherine is also a founding member of Builders Without Borders.

SUMMARY:Diane Stanley - \\"Saving Sky\\"
DESCRIPTION:<p class=\\"style34\\" align=\\"justify\\">
 Her country is at war. Terrorists strike at random\, widespread rationing is in effect\, and the power grid is down. But thirteen-year-old Sky Brightman is remarkably untouched by it all. She lives in a peaceful haven\, off the grid on sixty beautiful acres of New Mexico ranch land\, with a loving family\, three horses\, and an elderly dog who gives her gifts. No TV or internet brings disturbing news into their little adobe home.
 </p>
 <p class=\\"style34\\" align=\\"justify\\">
 Then a string of mysterious arrests begin and her new friend Kareem becomes a target. Sky is finally forced to confront the world in all its complexity. Summoning her considerable<br />
 courage and ingenuity\, she takes a stand against injustice. With humor\, hope\, and fierce determination\, she sets out to change the world.
 </p>
 <p align=\\"justify\\">
 &quot\;In this provocative title\, award-winning author Stanley asks young readers to consider what courage might look like in an America under psychological and physical siege . . . To categorize this novel as science fiction would be wishful thinking\, and parallels<br />
 to our contemporary times appear on every page . . . Readers will have much to discuss after finishing this beautifully written\, disturbing book.&quot\; --Starred review\, Booklist
 </p>
 <p align=\\"justify\\">
 &quot\;This page-turner subtly builds an all-too-believable near future\, sowing<br />
 just enough clues to keep readers informed and rarely descending into<br />
 blunt exposition. It skillfully captures the irrational fear of a public<br />
 under siege while giving kids a modern-day\, almost-just-like-them<br />
 female hero who champions hope. Inspiring.&quot\; --Kirkus

SUMMARY:BOOKS AT THE MARKET Terra Brockman -- The Seasons on Henry's Farm\: A Year of Food and Life on a Sustainable Farm
DESCRIPTION:<p>
 AT THE SANTA FE FARMERS MARKET
 </p>
 <p>
 &nbsp\;
 </p>
 <p>
 “The Seasons on Henry’s Farm\, a book to be reckoned with\, lifts you high enough to witness the tremendous possibilities people are capable of expressing in their working lives—in this case\, through farming. If you’re a fan of Aldo Leopold\, or have long suspected that time-honored methods of farming are best for the earth (and our taste buds) and require intelligence and thoroughness exceeding the levels demanded by most occupations\, you will discover here that your suspicions are well founded…. The Seasons on Henry’s Farm is an exhilarating story of observation. It’s a humbling one\, too\, for few of us can imagine mustering the endurance and precision needed to farm this deeply. But that Henry and his familial band of followers can and do\, again and again\, makes the world of the farm more than a dream or an ideal. It’s a great encouraging kick in the pants for all of us\, regardless of how we spend our time\, or what we do\, to achieve such excellence in full consciousness of all its complexities and consequences. This book tells a tale as raw and vivid as one could hope for\, while gently imparting what we need to know about the soil\, plants\, and animals that sustain us.”<br />

DESCRIPTION:<p>Presented by the New Mexico Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts</p>
 <p>

 <p>
 No matter what their culture\, religion\, lifestyle\, economics or personal challenges\, all the women arrived at the same internal destination\: a place within themselves of comfort and familiarity\, of harmony and wholeness\, and of acceptance and love for themselves. Their moving stories of self-discovery and empowerment will inspire women of all ages to continue their quest to find their own authentic home.<em><strong> </strong></em>
 </p>
 <p>
 <em><strong>Coming Home to Yourself\: Eighteen Wise Women Reflect on Their Journeys</strong></em> (Gaon Books) explores the many meanings of home to women as they age. Home can a physical place\, an emotional space\, or an activity where you can be yourself without masks or airs and be known for who you are. It is a haven within where you feel comfortable\, safe and content\: your internal and external selves matching\, your inner and outer voices becoming one.   </p>
 <p>Each of the 18 women profiled in the book\, who range in age from 56 to 77 years old and come from diverse backgrounds\, has experienced a turning<br />
 point\, insight or revelation later in life that has transformed her life and led her home to her deepest self.  The book explores the process of her journey\, the support she received\, the detours along the way\, and the sense of peace that results when she discovers or reclaims a true home.
